Muv-Luv series is content IP (*2) originated in the game that was released in 2003 and has been highly valued in Japan and the rest of the world. The part that enjoys the greatest popularity in the series is Muv-Luv Alternative, which was released in 2006. It is a sci-fi robot action featuring a battle of human against its extraterrestrial enemy, BETA, and has won the top position for six consecutive years in the overseas review site (*3).
Since the founding of Avex Pictures Inc. in 2014, Avex has been strengthening group synergies in the anime/game business. Avex's first in-house production of anime and in-house development of game was achieved by mobilizing all resources available in Avex Group companies, such as Avex Pictures, FLAGSHIP LINE, aNCHOR and fuzz. The TV anime and game from the Muv-Luv series will be simultaneously launched worldwide.
Fifteen years after the release of the game in 2006 with the original work owned by aNCHOR, Muv-Luv Alternative will be finally made into a TV anime, something fans have been eagerly awaiting. Planned by Avex Pictures and produced by FLAGSHIP LINE (a joint venture established with Graphinica, Inc.), the series will deliver powerful images by fully leveraging the digital animation technology of Graphinica, Inc. and the drawing quality of an animation studio, YUMETA CO., LTD. (an affiliate company of Graphinica, Inc.). As for the game, Project MIKHAIL, aNCHOR (planning/production/sales) is the publisher and fuzz is the developer. In case of the game, Project Immortal (provisional title), aNCHOR is both publisher and developer.
The TV anime, Muv-Luv Alternative, will be broadcast on Fuji TV 's +Ultra. As Crunchyroll, an owner of the digital video distribution platform with content mainly consisting of American anime, is one of the production committee members, the anime will be simultaneously streamed over 200 countries and regions. Collaboration with the company will be also active in the fields including merchandising of the goods and launch of the game worldwide.
Under its strategic theme of Entertainment x Tech x Global, Avex promotes the creation of strong content IP to survive the new era. It will continue working to develop and foster the global-standard content IP and delivering it all over the world.
*1: Project Immortal (provisional) will be only released in Japan in Japanese at first.
*2: IP:intellectual property. In the entertainment field, IP refers to artists, talent, music, animation and video works, characters and games among others.
*3: Ranked number one in the list of approximately 30,000 titles in Visual Novel Database, an overseas review site, for six consecutive years.
[Comment of Avex Pictures President Hideo Katsumata]
The new Muv-Luv series became a project in which the copyright development and in-house production in the upstream domain, which we have been advancing for the past few years in the fields of anime and game, have taken the most specific shape. Under the system established in the context of the actual workplace, the creators gathering there exhibit amazing abilities. We are finally able to deliver this long-awaited title to all of you who have been waiting. You won't be disappointed!
